Sacred Disguise

Part of the Destination Unknown series, "Sacred Disguise" examines the masks we wear on our journey through uncertain terrain. A white ceremonial mask frames piercing green eyes and full, sensuous lips—a powerful contrast between concealment and exposure, between the persona we present and the truth that lies beneath.

Set against a stark desert landscape dotted with sentinel cacti, the piece evokes the solitary nature of self-discovery. The warm earth tones and rusted oranges speak to survival in harsh conditions, while the mask itself becomes both protection and prison, raising questions about identity, authenticity, and the faces we choose to show the world.

The cactus—resilient, protective, beautiful in its own right—mirrors the human experience of developing defenses while navigating unknown destinations. This work invites contemplation on the sacred nature of our disguises: are they shields that protect our vulnerable selves, or barriers that prevent us from being truly seen?
